I've Just Seen A Face

Chapter 31
Home

Today was Peter’s birthday, and the rest of us were going to surprise him and take him to Disneyland, (he enjoys that sort of thing). Surprisingly, he’d never been there. That’s the funny thing. For living in California you’d think we’d have been there many times, but I’d only been there once when I was a child and I wasn’t sure about the others. It was 10 in the morning and we were going to take Peter at noon. The other three Monkees and myself were waiting for Peter to come home from breakfast with Emily.
“Davy, you should go get the money so we’re ready.” Micky said. Davy nodded and walked over to their refrigerator. They kept their money in a little can on the top. Davy, barely reaching it, took it down. He made a face.
“Hey, guys it’s a little light…” He said and opened the can, “It’s gone!’ He shouted. Micky ran over to him.
“What do you mean it’s gone?” He asked. Davy tipped the can over.
“It’s gone! There’s nothing here.” Davy said.
“Do you think Peter took it?” I asked.
“No, Peter knows not to go into that without asking us first. We‘re not that rich.” Mike said, “We must’ve been robbed.”
“Robbed!?” Micky said.
“Yeah, I think so. But when, I don’t know.” Mike said shaking his head in disbelief. They had done an extreme amount of gigs and had quite a bit of money, and now it was all gone.
“Well, I have…..$3.” Micky said digging in his pockets, “How much do you guys have?”
“None,” Davy replied.
“Uh, $6.50.” Mike said, “And I doubt Peter has anything.”
“What?” Peter said coming in the room.
“We’ve been robbed Peter!” Micky said. Peter started crying.
“Peter don’t cry, we’ll think of something.” Mike said comforting him.
“I could give you guys a little,” I offered.
“No, we don’t want to take yours.” Davy said.
“Davy, you wouldn’t be taking it. I’m giving it to you guys. You need money!” I said.
“No, we can find a way to get some. This isn’t your problem.”
“Davy, I wish you would let me help….” I said taking his hand. He smiled and kissed me.
“I know, but we need to do this on our own.” he said.
“Let’s look in here,” Mike said picking up the paper. They skimmed through and found something.
“Earn $1,000 in one week. Band groups.” Mike read.
“How?” Davy asked.
“Um, it doesn’t say, but it gives an address to go to if were interested.”
“Let’s go!” Micky said. They all agreed, and we headed to the place. We arrived at the address and it was a school.
“This is weird….maybe they want us to be teachers or something.” Peter said getting out of the car.
“But, band groups?” Micky asked as we made our way inside and to the principle’s office.
“Can I help you?” the principle asked.
“Yeah, we’re here about the add in the newspaper…” Mike said.
“Oh yes, come this way….” the man said and we followed him into his office.
“So you are interested in $1,000?” the principle asked kidding. The Monkees laughed along with him.
“Yes, see we were just robbed….” Peter said.
“What exactly is the job, sir?” Mike asked, getting back to the main focus.
“What group are you?”
“We’re the Monkees,” Davy said.
“Ah, yes, the Monkees….Well, Monkees, I am Principle Grear.”
“Nice to meet you,” they replied.
“Here’s the thing, we’ll pay you $1,000 if you become full time students here for one week.” Mr. Grear said.
“Students? Aren’t we a little old?” Mike asked.
“No, it’ll be fine. We’ve got it worked out.” Mike looked at the others.
“One sec,” he said to Mr. Grear. The Monkees were talking over whether not they wanted to do this. But then again, there really wasn’t anything else, and they needed the money. Badly.
“Okay, Mr. Grear. We’ll do this. When do we start.” Mike said. Mr. Grear smiled.
“Good, and you start next week.”
“Okay, well, we’ll be back next week then.” Mike said turning around. We began to leave when Mr. Grear spoke again.
“How would you like to earn, $3,000?” He asked.
“What?!” Peter said, turning around.
“How?” Davy asked.
“Simple. You.” he said pointing to me. I looked around.
“Me?” I asked.
“Yes, you. You know The Beatles don’t you?” he asked me.
“Um, yes.” I said not knowing what else to say.
“Well, if you get them to do this with you. I will give you, $5,000.”
“$5,000! You said $3,000!” Peter said.
“I know, I’m changing it. So, you get the Beatles to do this with you and you all get $5,000.” The Monkees just stared at me and I knew they needed the money. Whether or not I could get the Beatles here, or to even do this, is another story.
“I’ll try.” I said. And we left. I went home so I could give the Beatles a call. They always gave me a list of places they’d be staying along with the dates. Sometimes they were off and I wouldn’t be able to contact them, but this time I was able to.
“Hello?” John answered.
“Hey, John. It’s Olivia.” I said.
“Oh, hey pretty girl. How are ya?” He asked.
“Good, yourself?” I asked.
“Good. What’s up?”
“Well, I kinda need a favor…” I said.
“What’s that?”
“When is your next vacation?”
“In two days we have a week off.” In two days it would be the first day of our week. This was perfect, “Why?” he asked.
“Well, the Monkees were robbed…” I started and was interrupted by John’s laughter.
“Serves them right,” he said.
“John…”
“Sorry, go ahead.”
“Well, in order to get $1,000, they have to become students at one of the schools here for a week. Next week. And, because I was with, the guy knew I knew you guys and said he would give The Monkees $5,000 if I got you guys to come and do it too.” I said. John just started laughing again.
“I don’t think so.”
“John, please.” I asked.
“No, I don’t want to do anything for those bastards. They’ll get $1,000 no matter what. I’m not ruining my rare vacation to come save their butts.” he said, “I’m sorry, luv. But no, and I gotta run. I’ll catch you later.”
“Okay, bye John.” I said disappointed. I should’ve known they wouldn’t do it, but I thought I’d give it a chance. We hung up and the rest of the day I tried to think of ways to get them to come do it. Then I thought of something. It was the next day when I decided to call the Beatles.
“Hello?” Ringo answered.
“Hey, Ringo.” I said.
“Hello luv, how are you?”
“Good, you?”
“Good.”
“You aren’t busy are you?” I asked.
“No, what you need?” he asked.
“Um, can I talk to Paul?”
“Sure, hold on…” I waited for a minute before a voice came on.
“Hello?” Paul answered.
“Hey, Paul it’s me.” I said happily. It was nice to finally hear his voice again.
“Hey there, luv. How are you?” He said happily.
“Good, you?” I asked.
“Really good now.” he said and I smiled, blushing.
“I have a favor to ask you….” I said slowly. I didn’t know if John had told the others yet.
“Let me guess, that whole school thing?” he said laughing. I groaned.
“Yeah, please….” I said begging and laughing. I heard John shout in the back.
“See Paulie, I told you she’d call back for you!” I rolled my eyes. And Paul continued to laugh.
“So, you thought that even though John said no, you’d ask me and I’d say yes…huh?”
“Maybe,” I said smiling.
“And why would that be?” he asked me knowing the answer, but just giving me grief.
“Because you’re nicer than John,” I said and he laughed.
“Yeah, that’s true. But the other’s are nicer than John too you know.”
“I know, but, I also kinda like ya, and I thought you might kinda like me and so you’d do me a favor…” I said acting innocent.
“I see. Well, you’re right, I do kinda like ya, so I will say yes.”
“Oh Paul! Thank you so much!” I said excited. Why, I wasn’t sure.
“You’re welcome luv.” Paul said laughing, “But you owe me….” he said softly.
“You know I’ll pay you back,” I said softly as well. There was a slight awkward silence.
“When do we need to be there then?” Paul asked changing the subject.
“Um, but next Monday. So two days.” I said, “Is that going to work for you guys?”
“Monday, Monday….yeah I think so.” he said. There was a knock at my door.
“Hey Paul, I’m sorry, but there’s someone here….can I call you later?” I asked.
“Yeah, please do. I love talking to you.” he said and I smiled. Boy, I missed him.
“Okay, I’ll talk to you later then Paul. And thanks again for helping us out.” I said.
“Yeah, no problem. Buh bye luv.” he said and hung up. I ran to the door and opened it to see Davy standing there.
“Hey, Davy.” I said. He smiled and came in.
“Who were you talking to?”
“Oh, I was on the phone with The Beatles. They said they’d do it.” I informed him. He nodded.
“Good, because Mr. Grear just called needing an answer.” Davy told me. I went back over to his house and called Mr. Grear. He set everything up for starting school on Monday. This was going to be an adventure. I called Paul later on that evening as planned, but we could only talk for about 10 minutes. That was all I needed. I was missing him so much. I couldn’t wait until I saw him on Monday and I hoped we would be in a class together without Davy.

I was in at least one class with all the Monkees, and one class with Paul and Ringo. The only problem is I had Government with Paul and Davy. And if that wasn’t bad enough we had this campaign project, where it was Davy against Paul. And I was Paul’s campaign manager.
“This school thing sucks, I don’t care about the money anymore.” Davy said complaining as we were walking to his car.
“Davy, you do care about the money. You need it. And who cares if I’m Paul’s campaign manager?” I asked him.
“Because you’re going to have to go over to their hotel and work on it with him.” he said, I hadn’t thought that far.
“So? I’ve gone over there before alone. I’m their friend Davy,” I said getting slightly annoyed.
“Yeah, well something bad has happened every time you’ve gone over there.” I made a face.
“It has not, and Davy it’s to do homework. And we have to pass, that was one of the rules. I think you just don’t want me helping Paul win.” I said. Davy had sort of a big ego, so I was sure it was part of it. He didn’t say anything and we drove home. School went on fine until the night before it was time for the campaign day. Just as Davy said, I had to go to The Beatles hotel. I had to think of a campaign speech on why the class should vote for Paul and Paul had to go over what he was going to talk about. I went over there about 7pm.
“Hey luv, how are you?” Paul said letting me in. I smiled.
“Good, thanks. How are you?” I asked and Paul nodded smiling. I looked around and noticed we were the only ones there.
“Where are the others?” I asked as Paul took my hand and led me to the couch.
“They’re out. Don’t really know where,” he said shrugging his shoulders. I smiled. Time alone with Paul….but we had to work on our speeches.
“Well, are you ready to work on this?” I asked Paul rolling my eyes and lifting my lip. He smiled.
“As ready as I’m going to be,” We sat on the couch legs touching and began to work. After an hour, we were still just in the beginning…
“This American Government is hard. I don’t know anything about it.” Paul said leaning back into the couch, sighing. I smiled and touched his hand.
“I spose, I didn’t think of that. But, Davy doesn’t know much about it either, so it doesn’t matter as much as it would’ve.” I said. He nodded in agreement.
“I hope we beat him,” he said and pulled me back towards him. He had his arm around me as I leaned my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes, imagining what it would be like to actually be with Paul. I felt Paul began caressing my shoulder with his fingers and I felt more comfortable than I had felt in years. He leaned his head on mine and before I knew it I was waking up. I opened my eyes, and I was still leaning on Paul’s shoulder. His head was leaned back on the couch so I lifted mine up to see if he was awake. I smiled as he lay there, mouth open, sound asleep. I looked at the clock and it read 9:40pm. We’d been sleeping for 2 hours! I kissed his cheek and not to my surprise he didn’t even move. I smiled and this time kissed him softly on the lips. At first he didn’t move but soon began kissing back. He moved bringing me closer to him as his kiss got deeper. The whole point for me waking him up was to began working on our project, but I’ve been longing to kiss him for months. We stopped kissing after a few minutes and Paul looked down at me smiling.
“Nice nap?” I asked him smiling myself. He kissed me on my forehead and gently pulled the hair away from my face.
“Yes, it was perfect. How about you?” I smiled and nodded.
“Perfect as well, but we should get working. It’s almost 10pm.” I said. Paul stretched, bringing his arms back down around me and looked at the clock.
“Yeah, you are right, but I don’t feel like doing that crap.” He said. I laughed.
“Neither do I Paul, but it’s due tomorrow....” I reminded him. He shrugged his shoulders.
“Ah, who cares? I don’t know crap about this American stuff anyway. Let’s just wing it.” he said. I just looked at him, “And besides, I’d rather nap, or better yet, you still owe me….” he said kissing me softly on the mouth. As he pulled away, staying inches away from my face, I smiled.
“That’s right I do owe you…” I said kissing him back. Once again he pulled me closer against him as we began to kiss deeper. We started with just simple kissing, but eventually Paul began to explore. The feel of his fingers caressing my body made my heart stop and slowly I began caressing Paul in various areas. I was beginning to get goose bumps all over my body when Paul began leaning me on my back. The last time he tried to get on top of me I pushed him off, but this time I wanted it. I was as far back as I could go with Paul on top of me and he continued to kiss rather deep. As he began kissing my neck and sort of pushing himself against me a part of me said I should stop. As much as I loved him and wanted him, I wasn’t with him yet. But the other half said that because I love him, wanted him, and no one was around that I should continue. For the first time in my life, I listened to the half that said to keep going. We didn’t get much further than this because John walked into the room. Even though John knew it was me, I was suddenly embarrassed. With Paul still on me, slightly shaken because someone had just walked in, I pulled him closer to me and hid my head behind his. I shut my eyes as my conscious kept saying, “I told you, you shouldn’t have continued.” And guilt flooded over me.
“John, what are you doing here?” Paul asked staying put because he knew I was trying to hide.
“Well, Paulie, this is my room too…” John said smirking, “Hi Olivia,” he said.
“Hi John,” I said from behind Paul. Paul turned his head around to face me. He smiled sympathetically.
“I’m sorry luv,” he whispered. I smiled and kissed him quickly.
“Don’t worry, it’s not your fault. I don’t even know why I’m embarrassed…It's only John....” I said laughing slightly. He just kissed me softly again and turned back around.
“Couldn’t you have knocked first John?” Paul asked.
“Yeah, I could’ve, but you two aren’t supposed to be doing this... You’re supposed to be doing homework….” I heard John say in a sing song voice. Then I heard a door shut. Paul moved himself off and helped me up. We were once again sitting side by side.
“Sorry again luv,” he said.
“Paul, stop saying sorry, it wasn’t your fault.” I said.
“I know, but I feel bad. You were embarrassed.” he said grabbing my hand. I just smiled.
“Oh, but it was worth it.” We kissed one last time and decided we should began working again. We worked for about another hour, kissing every so often. Needless to say, we didn’t do so hot the next day. I don’t remember much about it, but I do remember that all I could think about was the night with Paul. And I believe Davy won the debate. But neither Paul or I really cared much.
