I've Just Seen A Face

Chapter 4

Home

We got into the elevator where George took my hand. I smiled at him.
“ ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ ” he sang laughing. I laughed with him. Once he was out of his shell he was so funny and sweet. I never knew this about his personality. Paul and John very seldom let George talk, and if they did Paul usually ended up interrupting anyway.
“Well, I’d like it if you were to hold my hand.” I said interlocking my fingers in his. With his free hand he reached out towards the lobby button.
“Wait!” I said stopping him. He placed his hand back down by his side and looked at me.
“Oh no. Last time you said wait you bombarded me with millions of questions.” He said and laughed again. I remember how stupid I must of sounded and laughed at myself along with him.
“No, no. I only have one this time I promise.”
“Okay, shoot.”
“What about your disguise? Won’t people recognize you walking around?”
“That’s two questions actually,” he said smiling at me. I rolled my eyes. “ and I don’t think so. It’s getting darker so people will be less likely to recognize me. Plus, they don’t know about you at all, so they wouldn’t expect the gentleman you are with is me.”
“Gentleman?” I said kiddingly.
“Yes, gentleman.” He said as the elevator door opened. “Ladies first.” He said as he bowed and showed me the way. I smiled and did a little curtsy. At that we both started laughing. He was so fun to be with. I never wanted this moment to end. As we got outside I shivered. George noticed and wrapped his coat around my shoulders. It was already warm from being on his body and the sweet aroma from his cologne filled my lungs.
“Thanks. But aren’t you cold now?” I asked him.
“No, I’m fine. Anyhow, you’re wearing less clothing than me so it’s more likely that you would get colder faster than me.”
“Good point.” I said looking down at my outfit. “I guess I should’ve grabbed a jacket in case.” He just smiled and took my hand again. Before long it was sprinkling. Just like a kid, George tipped his head up into the sky and opened his mouth. I giggled at him. Laughing also he said,
“Guess “Mother John” was right, aye?” I nodded. We continued walking hand in hand. We walked for quite a few minutes in silence just breathing in the fresh smelling air. Finally George broke the silence.
“Did you know that we will be here for at least another week?” That was news to me. I looked at him.
“No I didn’t. That’s awesome.” I said, “But why?” I knew that when they were on tour they didn’t usually stay in one city much more than a day. So I was quite curious.
“You already know about yesterday and today. Tomorrow we have a press conference at noon to about 3pm. Monday is another day off. Tuesday and Wednesday we have concerts in San Francisco and Los Angeles, so we’ll just stay here and drive. Thursday, we have a television show to appear on. And Friday and Saturday are more days off. It sucks having all those days off in a row like that though, cuz now we won’t get any for quite awhile. But knowing I have them where you live makes it worth it.” I squeezed his hand.
“You probably won’t be here, but on Wednesday my band will be appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. So, if you want you could watch it…”
“Yeah, of course I will.”
“You know, I’m really glad you’re here for another week. The only problem is once you leave…”
“Once I leave what?” I wasn’t really the type to express my self much. Davy usually did enough of that for the two of us. But I felt the need to express my feelings to George.
“Once you leave, I’ll miss you so much. I don’t know if you feel the same, but I feel like we’re clicking here. You know? I mean, I feel like I’ve known you forever.”
“I know exactly what you mean. I feel the same. I guess that why I have the guts to do the things I’m doing.” He sort of laughed as he held up my hand in his. “I guess I just feel like we’ve really got a start of something here. And who knows, you might not have to miss me.” I didn’t quite know what he meant by that, but I think I had a pretty good idea.
“I agree.” And I really did. I was starting to get confused about my feelings for Davy. I hadn’t thought about him this whole time. And when I did, it was because I was mad or frustrated at him. The whole 2 yrs or so I’ve been with him, I never thought about any other guy like he did girls. But I was feeling things for George. It must mean something if I went 2 or more yrs without thinking of another guy and then after a little over day, start having feelings for one. The wind suddenly began to get colder. George pulled me against him to warm him and me up. We walked a bit further, when once again George spoke up.
“You know, I would really like to see you tomorrow after our Press Conference. And well, every day I can while I’m here.”
“Really?”
“Of course. You know how much I’m starting to like you.” I was about to answer yes to him, when I thought of Davy. How would he feel knowing I’m going to see “The Beatles” again? He is probably mad enough wondering where I am now. Before I said anything, George made a suggestion.
“Why don’t you invite the Monkees and the other girls too?” I looked up at him.
“Yeah, I’m sure they’d love that.”
“Alright then. If you want we can just stop by the Monkees apartment after the conference. That way we won’t have to hassle with more hotel crap. We could go out to eat, do a party, and something else.”
“Okay, sounds good. I’m sure they won’t say no, so just come over.”
“Fab. I’ll tell the others when we get back,” he said looking down at his watch, “Speaking of the others. It’s 5:47. We should probably head back. We told them we’d be back around 6-ish.”
“Oh yeah.” I said half disappointed. I liked this time alone with George. He read my disappointment
“Something wrong?”
“No…yes.”
“No, yes? Which one?”
“Both. I’m kinda liking just being with you.” I said and smiled nervously. He smiled right back and let me know I didn’t have to feel stupid.
“I am too.” He said, as he leaned over and kissed me. The minute his lips touched mine I felt a wave of tingles shoot through my entire body. As our kiss got deeper he held me closer. I lifted my arms and wrapped them around his neck slowly moving my fingers to caress it. As our kiss progressed, his tongue slowly entered my mouth. I returned the act. He was such a good kisser, and his mouth on mine was so warm. Just his kiss warmed me up to the extent that I didn’t need the coat anymore. And although Paul’s arms felt so good around my waist, George’s felt so good and right. This incredible moment was interrupted when the rain turned to hail.
“Ahh!” we screamed.
“I think we’d better run back!” George shouted laughing.
“I think you’re right!” I shouted back. By the time we returned to the hotel, we were soaking wet. We burst into the room laughing. John, Paul, and Ringo looked up at us.
“What the hell?” John asked. We didn’t really know why we were laughing, so we didn’t bother answering his question.
“You were right John. It’s pouring bloody cats and dogs out there.” George said.
“Yeah, once we heard it against the window and looked out, we immediately thought of you poor lads.” He paused. “Looking good Olivia…” John smirked. Besides John, I noticed not only Paul but also Ringo looking at me. Not like an ‘ew’ look, but more of an ‘I want you’ look, which was kinda weird. I was used to the sick/joke looks from John, the interested looks from Paul and George, but Ringo too? What was going on? I was just wet. Wet. The word shot through my head like a bullet. I was not just wet, I was drenched and I happened to be wearing a white tube top. I suddenly turned bright red.
“Nothing to get embarrassed about luv…it looks good.” John commented again grinning. I looked down and sure enough, I was quite exposed. I quickly shut George’s coat.
“Um, George can you come with me to the bathroom for a moment?” I asked.
“Sure.” I turned quickly around and went into the other room. I heard George talking.
“John, I wish you would knock it off!” he yelled quietly.
“Aw, George it’s only a joke.”
“I don’t care. It made her feel uncomfortable, and I don’t like you making those comments to her anyway.”
“Sorry, George. I didn’t know you liked her so much.”
“Well….now you do.” He said and came into the room.
“Sorry, about that luv.” He said apologetically.
“That’s fine. I understand that’s the way John is. I just can’t believe that they all saw.” I said chuckling embarrassingly. He smiled.
“Well, they’d better forget what they saw pretty damn soon.” I continued to smile. I kissed him softly.
“Um, since I’ll be here for a little while still, do you think I could maybe put on a shirt of yours or something? I didn’t bring any extra clothes and like everyone noticed, I’m soaked.”
“Yeah, no problem. If you’d like, you could wear my p.j. pants since your skirt is also sopping wet.” I took up the offer and he gave me the clothes. I told him thanks and headed to the bathroom.
“I’ll be in the other room when you’re done. And I’ll try not to walk in on you this time.” He said cheerfully.
“Okay.” I laughed. When I was done I wandered out to Paul and John’s room. They were all lounging around on the beds and floor, except for Paul. They looked so comfortable. I went and sat next to George.
“We’ve decided to order food from room service. Paul’s in the next room on the phone now, so just go tell him what you want.” Ringo told me. I looked over into the other room at Paul sitting at the desk. He had a menu in front of him and he was giving off the orders. I walked over to him to look at the menu. I had no idea what they served. As I got closer to him he paused and looked up at me.
“Do you need to look at this?” He asked pointing at the menu.
“Ya, I’ll try and be quick so you’re not on the phone forever.”
“No worries, luv. Take your time.” He smiled. I smiled back and looked into his eyes. There was something different. Something missing. I decided not to figure it out now and turned my eyes to look at the menu. I looked at the incredible selection of food for a few minutes.
“Um, I’ll just have a Chicken Salad.” I told Paul. He just looked at me.
“That’s all?”
“Yeah. And whatever to drink I don’t really mind. As long as it’s not alcohol.”
“Okay.” He smiled. “We’re going to have Coke and Scotch. So, do you just want a Coke then? Or a different drink?”
“Coke’s fine thanks.” I said as I laid $5 on the desk by Paul. “This should cover my meal.”
“Are you crazy? You don’t have to do that. We can pay.” He said as he handed me my money back. I refused to take it.
“No Paul, you keep it. You guys have been so nice and everything. You already bought my breakfast too. The least I can do is buy my own dinner.” He shook his head and continued to hold out the money to me, and I refused to take it. He told rooms service my order as well and hung up the phone.
“Olivia, I’m not going to take this. So, please…here.” He leaned closer so he could stick it in my hand. I got up.
“Nope.” I began to walk away, when he grabbed my arm. As I turned around I was once again pressing against him, wanting nothing else but him. I looked him dead in the eyes. There was that sadness again. What was wrong with him all of a sudden?
“I won’t take it. We have plenty, plus it’s only right that the guy buys the lady her meal.” He looked straight into my eyes. My knees started to go again, so before I started to fall I looked away for a split second and just then I felt his arm go through the space in between my arm and body. Then he slid his hand down my side and thigh into the pocket of George’s pants to give my money back. I swallowed hard because it felt so good. I looked back at him. He smiled, let go of me and walked into the other room towards the others.
“All set. They’ll be up in about 10 minutes.” He told them. I just stood there. I already was confused about my feelings for Davy, not knowing if I loved him the way I thought I did. And just when I thought I wanted George more than Paul, a deep, strong and unknown feeling inside of me would wake up whenever I saw Paul. I got butterflies everytime he spoke, looked at me, or touched me. I had no idea what was going on. I’ve never had to choose between three men before. There was Davy, the charming one that I’ve been in love with for over 2 years and was soon to be married to. There was George, the shy, funny, sweet one, who made me forget about everything else and made me feel like I was the most beautiful, special girl in the world. And there was Paul, the stunningly attractive, incredibly charming and kind one who made my heart race and my knees go weak everytime I was around him. My heart kept telling me that the strong, deep, unknown feeling I felt for Paul wasn’t something little, it was something big. Could it be love? I didn’t know if I believed in true love at first sight, but maybe it’s true. It would make sense. Maybe I didn’t really love Davy and that’s why the feeling I felt for Paul was so unknown. Because if I didn’t love Davy, then I never really have been truly in love before, which means the first time I feel it, it will be unknown and new to me. I also never got weak in the knees around anyone before Paul. He was the first. I looked up at Paul sitting on the bed. I began to believe my theory, and I started to think that maybe my feelings for George weren’t as strong as I thought. But whenever I was with him, it seemed so right, and I thought of nothing else. Not even Paul. I dropped my shoulders in defeat. I was so confused. That’s the way it was going to be. I was already falling in love with Paul and he had no idea. Plus, he was after my friend and probably would never end up feeling the way I feel. All signs once again pointed to George.
“Are you okay Olivia?” George asked me. I looked up. They were all looking at me.
“Oh yeah, sorry, I was just thinking.” I said and walked back in the room to sit beside George. Just as I sat down someone knocked on the door. Must be room service. John got up and walked to the door. They wheeled the cart of food in. John tipped the boy and we all sat down to eat. As we ate we talked about various things. I told them how I was in a band, we talked about the day, and George told them about tomorrow’s plans.
“That sounds gear.” John said. The other’s agreed about the plans being okay. And before we knew it, it was 10:10pm.
“Wow, time flew.” I said.
“Time flies when you’re having fun.” John said. I began to get up.
“Well, as much as I’d love to stay here with you guys, I should probably go. Everyone is probably wondering where I am and you guys have to get up tomorrow for that Press Conference.”
“Yeah, but that’s not until noon.” George said. I grabbed George’s hand and led him in the other room with me. I kissed him once more, trying to forget about Paul, and think more about George. He held onto me as if once he let go he’d never see me again. After a few minutes, we stopped.
“Wow, you’re a great kisser.” He complimented me.
“Not like you though.”
“I know, you’re better.” He said and began kissing me again. Finally we said our good-byes, I grabbed my clothes and headed to the door in the other room.
“Well, guys, until tomorrow I guess.” I said, “I had so much fun with you all. I can’t wait to see you again tomorrow.”
“You’re quite a gal, Liv.” John said.
“Yeah, you’re very fun to be with.” Added Ringo. I smiled saying thank you. They all said goodbye, and I left the room. I realized that Paul had said nothing. All he did was wave goodbye. I got into the elevator wondering if it was something I did that had started to bother him. I got into my Volkswagen Beetle and drove home. I was already starting to get tired. On the way home I began to think of what was going to happen once I talked to Davy. I wasn’t in the mood at all to get into a fight. I figured I’d just deal with it when the time came. I hope that whatever his reaction is, doesn’t effect his decision to hang out with the Beatles tomorrow. Even if it does, which was a very large possibility, the others would vote to hang with them and it would happen anyway. As I got home and changed out of George’s clothes he had borrowed me and into my p.j.’s I was way too tired to think about tomorrow’s problems. I laid back in bed, and fell asleep thinking of George. But ended up dreaming of Paul.
