Chapter 1

The weeks that went by were rather slow and boring. I didn’t really hang out with the Monkees much, because of the sheer awkwardness of the situation that occurred the last time we were together. Davy called a few times and left messages, but I wasn’t ready to talk to him. I guess I should’ve though because as far as I knew, he probably thought we were still together just going through a rough spot. I hadn’t talked to Paul either since Greenland and began to wonder if he was just too busy, or if he gave up on me. Feeling depressed I went to bed early looking for a good refreshing sleep. I don’t remember having many dreams that night but I was awoken by a knock.
“Hold on a sec….” I said still half sleeping. I got out of bed, slipped on a robe, and answered my door. I was surprised to see Micky and Peter standing there with a record in their hands.
“Can we come in?” Peter asked. I shrugged and opened the door more.
“Thanks,” Micky said.
“No problem, what’s up?” I asked yawning.
“You haven’t been calling Davy back,” Peter said.
“I know, I-”
“And he’s going insane. He’s not eating or anything again, nor will he do anything. Including gigs, and we need the money.” Micky said cutting me off. I shook my head to wake up.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t know if I’m ready to talk to him yet.” I told them.
“You are getting back together aren’t you?” Micky asked worried.
“Um, I don’t really know…” I said. I didn’t want to tell them too much, because I didn’t want them running and telling Davy before I could.
“Well, before you make up your mind, I think you should hear these.” Micky said holding up the record. I took it from him.
“What is it?” I asked.
“It’s some songs Davy just wrote a couple of days ago. We weren’t supposed to show you or tell you, but with the way things are going, I think we should.” Micky explained.
“Yeah, so we stole it from his room, which is still plastered with your pictures by the way…” Peter informed me.
“You can listen and we’ll leave you alone. But I really wish you would talk to Davy, whether it’s to break up with him or not. He’s really sad and confused.” I nodded at Micky’s advice and let them out. I walked back over to my record player and put on the single. Davy’s voice flooded my room.

I wanted you, from the first day I saw you.
First day I looked into your eyes.
That’s when I knew, that I would adore you.
It was no surprise.

We were made for, each other,
As the stars were made for the sky,
We were made for, each other,
No other love, have I.

You took my hand, was it then you had known it?
Is that when you started loving me?
Was it the way, I smiled that had shown it?
Was that the day you could see?

We were made for, each other,
As the stars were made for the sky,
We were made for, each other,
No other love, have I.

Surprisingly, the lyrics were touching upon my emotions. But it wasn’t sadness in that I thought I was making a wrong decision; it was more because even after this, I was going to have to break it off with Davy and he would never understand. But I couldn’t continue leading him on, when I didn’t love him anymore. Nevertheless I flipped the record over to listen to the other song.

If I knew, what was bothering you,
I would run to your side, I don’t know why,
I would just die, if you left me.
Can’t you see what you’re doing to me?
Are you playing a game?
It’s always the same, am I to blame?
Or is anyone?

I don’t want to settle down,
With any other girl but you.
So I’m just going to wait around,
Till you decide what you’re gonna do.

Can’t you see what you’re doing to me?
Are you playing a game?
It’s always the same, am I to blame?
Or is anyone?

I don’t want to settle down,
With any other girl but you.
So I’m just going to wait around,
Till you decide what you’re gonna do.

This one seemed to hit me a little harder than the first. But yet, a part of it bothered me. He made the comment, “Can’t you see what you’re doing to me? Are you playing a game?” Now I don’t know if he was just putting that in to make the song, but a part of me really thought that that’s what he was thinking about all this. He’s feeling sorry for himself because of all the pain I’m causing him, and doesn’t even stop for a moment to realize what he’s doing to me. It’s all about him. For some reason he just couldn’t understand that his girl problem was hurting me so much that it actually made me fall out of love with him. So, all this, to him, is me just playing games to hurt him, which is exactly why I wasn’t sure what I was going to say. Yeah, it’s simple. I should just be able to tell him that I’ve fallen in love with Paul, and (until a couple days ago) I was getting the feeling that he may actually love me back. But Davy would just look past all that and focus on me hurting him. He’s going to be hurt either way, and as selfish as it sounds, I want him to understand so I won’t be looked at as a selfish, playing, snob. I shut the player off and got ready for the day. It was warm so I slipped on a mini skirt and top. I decided to talk to Davy and get it over with. Maybe something will come to me then. But after I got dressed I instead decided to take a nap.

When I awoke I could feel a light breeze on my cheek and the sound of a dog barking. I just figured I left my window open (although I didn’t remember opening it to begin with). It felt nice, so I just moved positions. As I moved something didn’t feel right. My bed was suddenly hard and my pillow felt like someone’s lap. And instead of sheets, there felt to be an arm resting on my side. I opened my eyes and straight ahead of me was a deck and fence, with grass and bushes all over the place. I was outside! I looked down and my stomach slowly and saw a hand lightly wrapped around my side and stomach. I was just about to scream when I caught a glimpse of the person’s bracelet. It was silver and had the word “McCartney” on it. Relieved I turned to see Paul sleeping and a little girl playing with her dog in the background next to a red house. I smiled seeing Paul napping. He was so adorable and as many times as I’ve said this, I still can’t get over it. He was handsome like a man and as cute as a little boy. Looking ahead I noticed we were on someone’s porch. I slowly rubbed Paul’s arm to wake him up. He moved a bit but didn’t wake. I sat up moving his arm, but still keeping hold of it. I turned to sit on the other side of the bench facing him, watching the little girl play with her dog. After a few minutes of saying Paul’s name and shaking him slightly he opened his eyes. He turned to look at me.
“Morning,” I said smiling. He smiled and sat up straight.
“Yeah, morning!” he said laughing a little and grabbing a hold of my hand.
“This is quite a surprise huh?” I asked him. He nodded.
“Yes, that’s for sure. I knew I popped somewhere so, to be honest, I wasn’t really scared, but after walking around a bit, I realized I was by myself. Then I started to get worried.”
“Oh I’m sorry…” I said squeezing his hand.
“Yeah, but after I sat here wondering what I was going to do, you popped here laying down and sleeping. I was unsure at first because I didn’t know who it was, but…you know, I realized it was you and decided to sleep me self.” He smiled. I smiled back.
“Yes, when I woke up on a strangers lap and their arm was around me, I was pretty freaked too. Then I saw your bracelet and all was good. Besides the fact that we don’t know where we are….” I said.
“Good point,” Paul agreed, “at least I’m here with you.” He finished. I scooted myself towards him and as he moved his arm around me I leaned against his shoulder. This was much better than talking to Davy. We sat there enjoying each other’s company when the little girl approached us.
“Hi!” she said. I lifted my head and turned to face her.
“Hello there, what’s your name?” Paul asked her.
“Danielle. What’s yours?”
“I’m Paul and this is Olivia,”
“Are you two girlfriend and boyfriend?” the girl asked giggling. I smiled.
“Maybe..” Paul answered smiling and making the girl giggle even more. As she was talking to us her dog ran up and began to bark.
“Looks like your puppy here wants to play.” Paul said.
“Wanna play with her?” Danielle asked.
“Sure,” Paul said moving his arm from around me, “Just for a bit luv,” he said smiling.
“I don’t think I’ll make it,” I said kidding around.
“Sure you will,” he said kissing me quickly.
“OOOOOooooo!” Danielle said making Paul and I laugh. Paul turned back around.
“So, what toy does your dog get?”
“This one,” Danielle said handing Paul a ball. He grabbed it, immediately making a face. Danielle laughed hysterically.
“Eww, this ball is all slobbery and sticky.” He said making a face. I laughed along with Danielle.
“Throw it!” she shouted. Paul threw the ball and the dog ran insane after it.
“Do you want to throw it?” she asked me. I shook my head.
“No way, I’m not touching that!” I said. Paul laughed.
“Ah, you baby!” I pretended to slug him.
“No….” Paul continued to laugh as he once again took the slobbery ball and threw it for the dog. He played for quite a few minutes and then decided to quit. The girl kept talking to us until her mom called her in for supper.
“She was cute.” I said. He nodded.
“And quite hyper I must say.” We both laughed. It was getting rather dark and we were getting hungry.
“You know, I’ve been kinda watching this house and it seems no one lives here.” Paul said. I turned to look at the dark house behind us.
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“Maybe we should check it out. You know, knock or something.” Paul suggested. I nodded and we got up off the bench. Paul held my hand and led me to the front of the house. He rang the door bell a couple times with no answer.
“Hm…” He said. He let go of my hand and opened the first door. He knocked for a while and at the last knock the door just opened. He turned back to look at me.
“That’s weird…” I said.
“Yeah, it is, come on.” Paul motioned me his way. I looked around.
“Should we really be going in here?” I asked hesitantly. He shrugged.
“No one appears to be home, and even if they catch me, I’m a Beatle! Nothing will happen!” He said joking to ease the tension. He held out his hand.
“Maybe, or else they’ll sue you for all your money,” I said finally taking his hand. His smile faded.
“That’s a good point….but oh well!” he said shrugging and continuing.
“Hello? Anyone here?” He yelled. Only silence was the response.
“It’s all right luv…” Paul said looking back at me sympathetically.
“What do you mean?” I asked not knowing what he wasn’t talking about.
“You’re squeezing the blood out of me hand!” he said laughing. I looked down and noticed I was holding on to Paul for dear life. I smiled embarrassingly and let loose on his hand a bit.
“Sorry,” I said. He smiled.
“It’s all right,” we walked throughout the house and found nobody.
“What do we do now?” I asked, as we were standing back in the entry way where we started. Paul thought for a moment.
“Let’s check in here for a sign of someone…” He said pointing to the entry closet. I nodded.
“Good idea!” I followed him to the door, still holding on to his hand. We both stood side by side as Paul reached for the handle. He opened the door.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” I screamed.
“Ahhh, holy shit!” Paul yelled. As soon as Paul opened the door a head rolled out. Flies swarming. Without thinking we ran over the few feet to the door to get out of this place. Standing behind Paul grabbing on to his waist, I continued to scream.
“Paul! Hurry up! Hurry up!” I screamed and began to cry in fear.
“I’m trying, I’m trying! The door is stuck!” he yelled back. I couldn’t help but stare at the decapitated head lying on the ground only a few feet away from me. The more I stared the more I noticed it was real. I turned back to face Paul’s head and began shaking him.
“Paul, please….” I said not screaming anymore, but crying.
“I can’t, it’s locked! C’mon!” he said grabbing me and pulling me towards the head. I refused to go near it, and shook my head.
“Olivia, luv, I know you’re scared. So am I, but there were doors upstairs leading outside. We have to try them!” He said. I knew he was right, but I couldn’t get my body to move. Paul came next to me and hugged me. As I stood staring at the head over his shoulder, he moved it so my head was in his chest.
“It’s going to be alright. I’m here and I’m not going to leave you or let anything happen to you, but we have to try upstairs…” He told me. I nodded and with Paul’s arms around my waist, he led me upstairs past the head and to the sliding glass doors. I stood again watching him as he tried his hardest to get out.
“We’re locked in,” he said staring at me, “I can’t believe this.”
“What are we going to do?” I asked him.
“I don’t know. I think we should scoop out the rooms…” I shook my head.
“Paul no…..” I said. He walked over to me and held on to me again.
“I think we have to, if we’re going to be stuck in here.” He said and it actually did make sense to me. I just held onto him so thankful he was calm. I don’t know if he was doing it only to help me and he was really freaking out inside, but it did help. If I were with Davy, I’d probably have to be the one pretending to be calm. But with Paul, I felt safe. We walked out into the living room area and past the hallway leading down the stairs. We both glanced down to see the head gone and the door shut. Paul looked at me.
“What the hell?” he said to himself and began walking towards the stairs. I waited at the top as he made his way down back to the door and opened it. Getting ready to scream I placed my hand over my mouth, but to my surprise there was nothing but shoes and jackets in the closet. Paul looked back at me totally confused. He moved quickly back up the stairs to me.
“This is bloody insane,” he said as we walked down a different hallway housing four rooms. Two of the rooms were locked and the other two were a bathroom and bedroom. We walked into the bed room and the door slammed behind us. Just as we figured, the door was locked.
