Chapter 18

The next morning Paul and I showered and walked hesitantly out to the others, eating breakfast.
“Morning,” Ringo said cheerfully.
“Good morning,” I said sitting down next to Paul at the table. John and George just smiled, quiet. Great, they remembered.
“Sorry bout last night guys,” John finally said. Paul glared at them.
“You better be,” he said. I touched his arm. He looked over at me and calmed down a bit.
“We were high and obviously not thinking,” George said, “We didn’t really see anything anyway.”
“Do you swear?” Paul asked. They both nodded, “Good. Don’t let it happen again,” he told them and they nodded once more. The rest of breakfast was quiet, mostly due to sheer awkwardness. Again, the sight of food totally disgusted me so I didn’t eat. Paul asked me if I was feeling sick again and I said I didn’t really know. They had a press conference to attend at noon where they would go over where Paul was and ask how he was doing (because of his “sickness”). Things like that. Not really feeling quite up to par, I decided to wait back at the hotel. I was however, going to go to the concert with them at 7pm. Around two o’clock, the guys all shuffled into the hotel room laughing and talking.
“How was the press conference?” I asked, turning the TV off.
“Swell. They believed every word,” Paul said laughing. He came over and kissed me, then sat next to me on the couch.
“Yeah, the presses are such dopes,” John said pulling out a cigarette. I smiled.
“How are you feeling love?” Paul asked turning to me.
“Much better, I’m actually kinda hungry,” I said. He smiled.
“Good, do you want me to order you something?” I shrugged.
“I can just wait till you guys eat,” I said.
“Well, I’ll get something with you. I’m starving.” George said. I laughed. I could always count on George for that.
“Alright then,” I said. George got up and walked over to the phone.
“What do you want?” he asked. I shrugged.
“A salad is fine,” I told him. I didn’t really like salads that well, but for some reason it really sounded good. George nodded and began talking into the phone. As he ordered, Brian walked in with a newspaper, and he didn’t look happy. He set it on Paul’s lap. Paul looked down and so did I. On the front page it read, “Over Jane Asher? Beatle Paul McCartney found new girl.” and there was a picture of Paul and I on the beach in Mexico, holding hands. Paul looked up at Brian and shrugged.
“So, I did,” he said. Brian rolled his eyes.
“Paul, this is bad,” he said. He looked over at me and smiled slightly, “Hello Olivia,” he said. I smiled.
“Hi Brian,” I said. He turned his attention back to Paul.
“I thought we talked about this,” he said. Paul looked annoyed.
“Yes, but it’s going to get out eventually. Who cares anyway,” he said.
“I do, the fans do, Paul,” Brian said obviously frustrated. George walked back over to the main area.
“What’s going on?” he asked. Brian handed the paper to George. George lifted his eyebrows and looked at Paul.
“Oops,” he said and smirked. Paul smiled back.
“This is not a laughing matter boys. You may think it’s stupid, but you don’t know how important it is that you remain seen as single, available men,” he said, pacing.
“They already know about John and Cyn,” Paul said, “What’s one more?” he asked.
“They don’t know about George and Pattie?” I asked. George shook his head no.
“That doesn’t matter Paul. The fans were ecstatic that you and Jane broke up. They are going to be absolutely crushed when they see you’ve found someone else.” Brian said. Paul, still frustrated, shook his head. I felt kinda awkward sitting there during the argument, but I didn’t move.
“It’s no big deal Brian,” Paul tried to say.
“Yes it is Paul!” Brian said angrily back. Paul rolled his eyes, “It just so happens that it’s worse for you.” He finished. Paul looked up at him.
“Why is it worse for me?” he asked. Brian looked over at me and back at Paul.
“Paul, we talked about this when you…told me about Olivia.” He said. Paul just looked at him confused, “You are the cute Beatle, Paul. It makes a world of difference to these teenage girls whether you are single or not.”
“So what am I supposed to do then, Brian? Fake a break up with her?” Paul replied somewhat angry. Brian just looked at him, obviously contemplating the idea. Paul began shaking his head, “No Brian. I was being sarcastic. I’m not staging a bloody break up so we can gain a few more fans!” He said taking my hand and getting up. I had no choice but to follow his actions.
“Paul,” Brian started.
“No, Brian.” He said, “Come on Olivia,” he said and we walked out of the room.
“Where are we going?” I asked him.
“Away from that,” he said walking to the elevator.
“I’m sorry,” I said. He looked over at me once we got in the elevator.
“For what?,” he asked. I shrugged.
“I don’t know, for you getting yelled at, and them spotting us. We should’ve been more careful,” I said. Paul shook his head.
“Olivia, you don’t need to be sorry for anything. Personally, I don’t give a shit if people know we’re together. It’s Brian.” He said.
“But now Brian’s angry with you, and vice versa.” I said. Paul laughed.
“We’ve been angry at each other before. I knew it was coming anyway, it was just when that I didn’t know. But he’s going to have to accept that we can’t be single for the rest of our lives just for the bloody fans,” he said, “We have enough anyway that I don’t think it’ll really make that much of a difference.”
“I suppose,” I said. The elevator opened and Paul walked out.
“Plus, I want people to know that you’re mine. I don’t want to hide you,” he said leaning down and kissing me. I smiled and squeezed his hand. Paul stuck on his little mustache and goatee before heading outside.
“Do always carry those around with you?” I asked. He laughed and nodded.
“Yes, for emergencies like this,” he said.
“What about me? Won’t people recognize me now and then know it’s you?” I asked. Paul stopped and thought for a second.
“That’s true,” he said. I just stood there, “Here, in here,” he said leading me into a women’s clothing shop right outside of the hotel. He picked out a hat for me and bought some sunglasses. I laughed as we walked out.
“I feel stupid,” I said still laughing. He looked at me.
“Why? You look fabulous,” he said smiling. I laughed.
“Um hm, right,” I said.
“You do,” he said taking my hand.
“So now where?” I asked.
“Well, because I kinda took you out of there with me, you’ll not get your salad.” I forgot about that, “So, we’ll go get you something to eat. Plus, I’m kinda hungry.” He said.
“Alright,” I said holding onto his arm with my other hand. We went to a little restaurant and ate. I was getting a little hungrier than before, so I ordered a burger opposed to a salad.
“I’m glad you’re feeling better love,” Paul said kissing me on the head. I looked up at him.
“Me too. That was weird,” I said.
“Yeah, it was really sudden,” he agreed as we left the restaurant and started walking back to the hotel. No body recognized either of us and we made it back to the hotel and up the elevator fine. We walked into the room and Brian, still there, walked over to Paul.
“Where did you go?!” he asked still angry. Paul made a face at him and pulled off his disguise. I took off the hat and glasses.
“Ah, give it a rest Brian. We went out and ate. No one saw us,” Paul said annoyed again. The door opened, and we all turned.
“Mr. Epstein you have a call on line one,” one of the secretaries said.
“Alright, thank you Betty,” he said smiling at her. He turned back to Paul and the smile went away, “We will talk about this later,” he said pointing at Paul. Paul rolled his eyes.
“I’m bloody excited,” he said sarcastically. Brian glared at him and left the room.
“Whoa, nice one Macca,” John said. Paul sat down next to me once again.
“I’m so bloody sick of this shit,” Paul said annoyed.
“Yeah, it sucked when I went through it. But he’ll give in eventually. The bird hates it when we’re mad at him,” John said snickering. Paul and the others laughed. I made a face.
“Poor Brian,” I said.
“Ah, love, we’re only joking,” Paul said touching my hand. I just smiled.
“I know, but, he’s just doing what he thinks is best,” I said feeling bad for Brian. I knew how they treated him sometimes, and it wasn’t very nice.
“Ah, we know. But he goes a little overboard sometimes,” John said. Paul nodded.
“Don’t worry about it,” Paul said, “How many hours do we have?” he asked John.
“About three,” John replied.
“What should we do?” George asked, giving Paul a weird look. I looked at Paul who nodded.
“I don’t know,” he said standing up. George and John followed suit. Ringo wasn’t in the room.
“Where are you guys going?” I asked, as John and George went into the other room. Paul stretched.
“I don’t know where they’re going, but I’m just stretching,” he said. I looked at him suspiciously as he sat down, “Don’t look at me like that,” he said laughing.
“Well, I’m curious,” I said. He laughed.
“About what?”
“You. You’re being all sneaky like,” I said laughing. He shook his head.
“Nah, I’m not,” he said leaning over to kiss me. I felt him move while we were kissing and almost exactly after he pulled away suddenly. I opened my eyes and all four of them, two cans each, begin spraying me with Silly String Spray. I screamed and jumped up off the couch.
“Happy Birthday Olivia!” John, George, and Ringo shouted. I laughed.
“Paul McCartney!” I yelled knowing he knew about this. He laughed.
“Sorry love,” he said as I ran into a different room. They ran after me continuing to spray that sticky crap all over me.
“Stop!” I yelled between laughs. It was stuck all over me. There was a lot in those stupid cans, not to mention they had extras in their pockets.
“No way, luv, not till it’s gone. We couldn’t pour beer all over ya, so we had to resort to this,” John said. I picked up a pillow off the bed and threw it at them. It knocked one of cans out of John’s hands and I dashed for it.
“Macca, get her!” John yelled. I laughed as I almost grabbed it off the floor, but Paul got a hold of me. I loved how there were so immature, it made them so fun.
“Oh, no you don’t,” Paul said pinning me down to the ground and sitting on me. They all swarmed around me spraying, still. I laughed and brought my hands up to block my face.
“Enough?” I asked laughing.
“Nope, they’re not gone yet. You’re twenty now, we don’t have to be nice anymore.” John said.
“Here, guys,” Paul said handing his cans to the others while he took my hands and pinned them down. After a few minutes they were out of Silly String Spray and it was piled all over my face. I tried to take some off but the goop was stuck well.
“Happy Birthday again,” George said laughing. I kiddingly glared at him and he laughed more.
“You look so beautiful love,” Paul said smirking. I turned to him and glared like I did at George.
“Oh yeah?” I asked him. He nodded, still laughing. As he had let go of my arms I sat up and gave him a huge kiss, smudging the crap all over his face.
“I suppose I deserve that,” he laughed, and the others joined in. I shook my head smiling.
“Oh, that was nothing. You haven’t even begun to get what you deserve,” I said laughing and picking more of the guck off. Paul helped me up. I turned to the others.
“Don’t think you aren’t going to get anything either,” I said pointing at them and they just laughed.
“Whatever you say,” John asked leaving the room, George, Ringo, and Paul following.
“Oh, hey, could you clean that up too, by the way?” Paul asked turning around to face me, and pointing to the Silly String all over the floor and bed. I smiled and shook my head.
“You’re gonna get it.” I told him. He laughed and came over to me.
“I’m just joking love, we’ll clean it.” He said bending over to pick some off the floor.
“You do realize it’s your birthday in a month,” I said. He stood up and nodded.
“Yeah, I thought about that, but it’s worth it whatever you do to me.” He said smiling.
“You won’t think so when it happens.” I said, “Plus, who says I’m going to wait till your birthday before I do something? I might do something now and then,” I said. He squinted his eyes at me.
“You are an evil girl,” he said. I smiled.
“I got it from you,” I said kissing him on the cheek. He laughed.
“Hey, Olivia, come out here,” I heard John call. I looked at Paul. He shrugged.
“What are they going to do now?” I asked him.
“I really don’t know this time,” he said.
“I don’t trust you anymore,” I said. He looked sad.
“What? C’mon, it was fun,” he said.
“For you guys, look at me,” I said smiling.
“I did, you look nice,” he said the smile creeping back onto his face. I shook my head and picked up the pillow hitting him on the head. He laughed as I went out into the living room area.
“We felt so bad, that we got you this,” John said moving aside as George and Ringo set a big birthday cake on the table. It said, “Happy Birthday Little ‘Liv,” I smiled as Paul joined us.
“Oh, see, that’s nice,” he said, “We didn’t get any birthday cake before,” he said.
“Hey, why is it Little ‘Liv? I’m twenty now you know,” I said acting older. They laughed.
“Oh, you’ll always be a teenager with us, luv,” John said handing me a knife.
“You do realize, I still have to get you back,” I said slyly reaching out for the knife. John whipped it back.
“That’s right,” he said and I laughed. They smiled and handed it to me.
“Who wants some?” I asked and all four of them raised their hands. I cut five pieces of cake out and we sat down at the table.
“Thanks guys, that was really nice,” I said eating.
“No problem, we wanted to do something for ya,” Ringo said. I smiled. We finished eating our cake and I began cutting another, rather large piece.
“Are you hungry?” Paul asked surprised. I nodded and picked up the piece of cake with my hand and begin bringing it to my plate. At the last minute I turned and put it into Paul’s face. The other three burst out laughing, and I smiled.
“You look so handsome Paul,” I said to him, mocking him from earlier. He let out a laugh, and opened his eyes filled with frosting as pieces of cake fell off his entire face. He licked his lips and nodded.
“Good one Olivia,” John said laughing. I turned to him and raised my eyebrows. He stopped laughing. I turned and took some of the cake from Paul’s face and chucked it at John. It hit him right in the face. He laughed.
“Oh, that’s it missy,” he said as he grabbed a chunk of cake. I laughed.
“Oh you’re wasting cake!” I said.
“I don’t care,” he said smiling, as George and Ringo each grabbed a piece of cake. I guess I shouldn’t have done that…. I started giggling as the three of them stood up. I leaned over to Paul and hid my face in his chest.
“Paul help,” I whined. He laughed and held up his hands.
“You’re on you own love, you started it.” I looked up at him sadly and he just shook his head and laughed, “Sorry,” he said as someone grabbed me from behind and three hands came around and put cake all over in my face. I laughed and then pretended to cry. Just then I heard a door open. I began wiping the cake off my face and turned to see Brian just standing there. Uh oh…..
“What in heaven’s name is going on here?” he asked seeing cake all over us and the table and Silly String Spray all over the floors and walls. I continued wiping cake off and glanced at Paul and the others.
“Ah, Brian we were just having a little fun. It was Olivia’s birthday a week ago and we missed it,” John said wiping cake off of his face. Brian just stood there not amused by it.
“Do you realize that you have to be ready to leave in half an hour? Hm? Did you think of that?” Brian said angry.
“It was my fault Brian, I started-”
“Don’t Olivia,” Paul said turning to me, then back at Brian, “It wasn’t her fault. We were trying to give her a fun belated birthday; we’ll clean up and be ready Brian. Don’t worry.” Paul said still clearly annoyed with Brian.
“I should hope so,” he said. He then turned over to me, “Olivia I’m sorry you have to be here for all this. Let me assure you none of this falls upon you.” He said and I tried to smile. I couldn’t help but feel somewhat responsible.
“Thanks,” I said. He nodded and smiled.
“Happy Birthday,” he said and I nodded.
“Thanks again,”
“Now get ready, we have to leave for the show in-”
“In half an hour we know,” John said. Brian nodded and left the room.
“Sorry you guys,” I said. I started picking up the cake and Silly String off the floor. Paul stopped me.
“You don’t have to clean up, it’s fine. And it’s not your fault,” Paul said.
“Yeah, Brian’s just a stickler sometimes, that’s all,” George said.
“You guys, I started the food fight,” I said. John shook his head.
“But we started it long before that, it’s fine,” he said, “I’m going to go get ready,” he said leaving. The others agreed and Paul and I went into our room.
“I’m going to shower quickly,” I said, “I don’t think I’ll get this off otherwise,” I laughed looking down at myself. Paul smiled.
“Sorry bout you’re clothes. It should wash off,” he said. I nodded.
“Oh, I know it will. That was really fun. I didn’t expect them to do anything,” I said. Paul smiled again, taking off his shirt and following me to the bathroom.
“That’s why John called the other day, at your apartment.” He informed me getting a rag wet and washing the cake off his face. I started the shower.
“See, I knew that was suspicious too. You’ve been keeping a lot of secrets lately,” I said smiling.
“It’s all done with, I swear,” he said kissing me quickly. I hopped in the shower, “I’ll be out here when you’re done,” Paul said to me through the shower curtain.
“Alright,” I said and I heard the door shut. I took a quick 10 minute shower, getting all the cake and spray off. When I got out I rushed to change and put on my makeup. I didn’t put that much on because we were in a hurry, but it was enough to not make me look scary. I hated the way I looked with absolutely no makeup. Brian came in around 5:25 and let us know we had to leave. Paul grabbed his suit coat and we went out to join the others. Brian glared at Paul.
“What? I still have five minutes to spare,” Paul said putting his coat on. John laughed and Paul glanced over at him smiling a little.
“That’s not funny Paul,” Brian said, “Let’s go,” he said and we all left and shuffled into the car. We drove to the concert and they performed wonderfully. I hadn’t been to one of their concerts since…. since, well, way before the room, so I was really excited for it. I stood on the side of the stage and just smiled, watching them. At one point Paul turned his head to look at me and winked. Afterwards we all rushed into the dressing room to relax a bit before heading off to, another one of their parties. This time Paul and I would be attending, but let’s hope they are nothing like the ones I’ve been to previously……
