Chapter 9

The next few days were normal. There was no weird Paul, no daughter, nothing. But I found that the more I was in here with Paul; the more I wished I could talk to Davy and end things officially. After a few days it looked like my luck was up because I woke up in my own apartment again. I opened my eyes and stretched, planning on talking to Davy today. I had no ideas for a song whatsoever, so there really wasn’t anything else that I wanted to get done. I went and showered, happy to be wearing clothes again. It felt so nice, I was warm! In the room, even with wearing Paul’s shirt, (which I laid nicely on my bed) I was permanently cold. I pulled my hair back into a pony and left to go to The Monkees apartment. Mike answered the door.
“Oh, hey, Olivia, long time no see,” he said gesturing me in. I smiled.
“I know,” I answered nodding my head. As I walked in I looked around.
“Where is everyone?” I asked him.
“Peter and Em are out together, same with Brittany and Mick, and Davy’s in his room,” he said pointing off in Davy’s direction. I was fine up until this moment. I was confident in what I was going to say and how I thought Davy was going to react. But the moment it sunk in that I was about the end things, and I mean really end things with the only man I really ever knew, made my heart beat a little faster. I smiled.
“Thanks,” I said as I walked past Mike and towards Davy’s room. I stood outside the door not quite ready to knock. Was I ready to do this? Slowly and quietly I finally knocked.
“Yeah, come in,” I heard Davy say. I slowly reached out for the door handle and turned it. Davy was just sitting on the bed reading a Mersey Beat magazine. He looked up and immediately shut the magazine and sat up straight, “Olivia…” he said, clearly not expecting to see me.
“Hi, Davy,” I said walking over to him.
“Where have you been?” he asked.
“It’s a long story, believe me,” I said rolling my eyes. He just half smiled.
“What’s up?” he then asked. I didn’t speak for a moment. He just looked closer at me, “Everything alright?” he asked. I tried to smile but quickly turned away. This was a lot harder than I thought, “You know, I didn’t think you were ever going to talk to me again…” Davy then said. I turned around to face him.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Well, I know we kinda got into a bit of a fight last time we saw each other, but I’ve been trying to call you and work it out, but…you never called me back…” he said sadly. I closed my eyes.
“I wish you didn’t say that,” I said softly.
“What?” he asked.
“I said I wish you didn’t say that,” I repeated and looked at him sadly. He looked confused and then the shock of what was about to happen hit him.
“Why?” he asked hesitantly.
“Well, I just want to start off saying that so far being with you has been probably the best years of my life…despite the many little problems we had. I’ve learned so much from you and I’ll always love you….” I started. His face seemed to turn white. He didn’t speak, so I continued, “The reason I haven’t been returning your phone calls for one, is that I didn’t really know how I was going to tell you this, and secondly, for the last few weeks I’ve been stuck in a room with Paul.” I told him.
“Paul? Paul McCartney?” he asked, a little bit of anger and jealously showing through. I nodded.
“Yes, Paul McCartney,” I replied, like I knew any other Paul’s….
“What does this have to do with him?” Davy asked hesitant again. It was a few moments before I spoke and when I looked at Davy, I could see tears forming in his eyes.
“Davy…I’m in love with Paul,” I finally said. Davy just sat there, and then he sort of laughed, which surprised me.
“Are you sure love, or are you just infatuated with him?” he asked. I shook my head.
“No, I really do love him Davy, and he loves me.”
“How do you know he’s not just using you?” he asked.
“Because, I know. I’ve been falling for him for a really long time now, but because of whom he is and his reputation I was hesitant to act upon any of my feelings. There’s a lot that has happened between Paul and I, that no body else knows about. And through everything we’ve realized that we truly love each other.”
“Were you sleeping with him?!” Davy asked angry. I was offended.
“Do you really think I would do that Davy?” I asked.
“Well, I don’t know. There is a lot of stuff that has happened between you two that I don’t know about remember?” he said mocking me. I frowned.
“Davy that’s not what I meant,” I told him.
“Well what did you mean?” he asked, challenging me.
“I’m not going to go through all of it, and it’s alright if you don’t want to believe me. But it’s true. I love Paul,” I said again. The angry look was swept off his face as he once again was broken hearted.
“So what about me then?” he asked.
“What?”
“Did you ever really love me?” I nodded.
“Of course I did Davy, you were my first love. And because of that I will always love you, but we’ve changed a lot from what we used to be, and, things aren’t working out anymore. And even though I’ll always love you, the love I have for Paul is different. I really think he’s the one Davy….” I said. He turned away from me.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” I heard him say.
“Davy I’m so sorry, but it would’ve never worked out. Now you can find the one you’re really supposed to be with.” He shook his head as he turned back to me.
“No, no I won’t. I just lost her.” I shook my head.
“Davy, I-” I started.
“And I can’t believe you went with him! Paul?” he asked suddenly resorting to anger. I was taken aback.
“Davy, he’s a person too. He loves and is loved just like everybody else.” I said. Davy laughed sarcastically.
“Ha, he loves girls and sex. That’s all. I know you don’t believe me, but you are making a huge mistake. You left me so many times cuz I would flirt, imagine what this twit is going to do to you.” He said. I closed my eyes. I knew he was going to get this way. He has a horrible temper and I hated it. And on top of that, I didn’t like him talking about Paul that way.
“He’s not a twit Davy, and he really loves me.” I told him.
“I mean really Olivia, of all people! George I didn’t like, but he was ten times better than Paul.” He said.
“Davy if it were the other way around you would say the same thing. You just don’t like him because you lost to him.” I said somewhat angry myself. That seemed to hurt him.
“That hurt Olivia,” he said. I calmed down.
“I’m sorry Davy, but you can’t talk about him like that, or at least in front of me. You have a right to your opinion of him, but you know now that I love him and so I don’t appreciate you saying crap like that…especially when you know it’s not all true.” I said. He knew I was right. Before anything with the Beatles happened, Davy was a big fan of Paul. John was a little to mean and sarcastic for Davy’s taste, but Paul and him really had a lot in common. Most of all, he was fascinated with Paul’s musical talents.
“So this is it then, you’re leaving me for Paul McCartney?” he said shaking his head, “I always worried, but I never really thought it would happen.” He said half smiling. I didn’t know what else to say.
“I’m sorry Davy, I can’t help the way I feel,” I told him. We sat there in silence for a few moments and I was wishing with all my soul I would just pop back in with Paul. That didn’t happen.
“Well, I should probably get going…..” I started to say. He nodded without looking at me.
“Yep, see ya around Olivia,” he said very casually and not Davy like. I cringed at the way he said it. That was it. No more Olivia and Davy. Half of me was excited because I could finally start my life with Paul. But the other half was afraid. Did I make a mistake? Will Paul really love me forever?

As soon as I got home I took my shirt and pants off. I picked up Paul’s shirt and put it on. I breathed in his smell as I laid on the bed waiting to be taken back to my Paul. I closed my eyes trying to forget about what just happen, when suddenly there was somebody on top of me making out with me. I opened my eyes to find Paul. Who in the world was he kissing!?
“Paul?!” I said pushing him off of me. He seemed flustered.
“Olivia?” he replied back shaking his head slightly. I looked around. This better not be what I think it is……
“What were you doing?” I asked, “Never mind, that’s obvious, WHO were you doing that with?” I asked him. He just sat there, “Paul?” I asked. Please oh please, I thought to myself.
“It’s not what it looks like,” he said.
“Oh really, then what was it?” I asked angry. How could he do this? There was no way I was telling him now that I broke it off with Davy.
“She had magic,” he said swallowing. I squinted my eyes.
“Right, I can’t believe you!” I said tears forming in my eyes. It seemed not so long ago, I was crying because he lied to me. Now he was already cheating. He shook his head and came towards me. I backed away. He looked defeated.
“Olivia please don’t be like this,” he said. I looked back at him angry.
“Be like what Paul? I just caught you fooling around, and we aren’t even officially together yet!” I said. He shook his head strong this time and despite my resistance, he laid next to me and grabbed my hand.
“No, I told you. She had some sort of magic spell on me. I was normal and then she said as a fan, she wanted a kiss. I thought what the hell why not, I’ll never see her again, and then something happened.” He said.
“Yeah, you liked it more than you thought,” I said crying.
“No I didn’t! Olivia I promise I’m telling the truth. Plus, if I were ever going to do something like this to you, which I never will, why would I do it just days after you were mad at me before?” he asked. He had a good point.
“Because you’re too horny to wait any longer,” I said.
“Hey, that’s not true. If you want to go into that we can….” He said. I turned to face him.
“What?” I asked.
“Yeah, I know I’m horny. I can’t help it. But I can wait, whether it’s hard or not. Just think of how long I’m waiting to be with you….and not just in here either, before….” he said drifting off, thinking I would understand. Luckily for him, I did. I started to open my mouth, “and if you’re going to say something along the lines of ‘now you’ve waited so long that you can’t anymore so you have to try another girl’ then you are also wrong.” He said. I shut my mouth.
“How did you know I was going to say that?” I asked. He just looked at me.
“Because, love, I know you a lot more than you think.” I couldn’t help but smile. It always made me happy to find out how much he really does know me.
“Is it really that hard for you to wait?” I asked him. He laughed nervously and raised his eyebrows.
“Love, you have no idea.” He said laughing a bit, and getting more comfortable laying next to me, “Why do you think I’m in the bathroom all the time?” I was confused.
“I don’t know, why are you?” I asked really curious. I always wondered what he was doing in there. He laughed nervously again.
“Well, love, see, there’s this thing that happens to guys when, well, when they are all riled up….” He started. I still wasn’t understanding. He looked at me, and I shrugged. He sighed and continued, “I’m….wanking off.” He said really quietly. I pulled back.
“Oh Paul, are you serious!?” I asked him. I didn’t want to know that. He shrugged.
“I can’t help it, it’s you…” he said.
“Me? What did I do?” I asked. He laughed.
“Everything…”
“So I make you…do that?” I asked him. He nodded.
“Yep, think of you the whole time…” he said finding it a bit amusing how I found it disgusting. I shriveled my nose.
“Oh, great…” I said.
“But wouldn’t you rather me think of you instead of other girls?” he asked. I thought about it. I nodded.
“Yes, but, I don’t need to hear about it. Now I’m going to know what you’re doing in there all the time after our usual,” I said.
“Well, see, you’ll only know that. Not the other times.” He said smiling. I shriveled my nose.
“There’s more?!” I asked. He laughed.
“I’m sorry love, I’m not used to this.” He said still laughing at me. I shook my head.
“That’s so gross,” I said. He just laughed.
“You’re so cute,” he said kissing my on the forehead. I just made a grunting noise and then laughed.
“So, are we good?” he asked getting serious.
“Do you promise it wasn’t you?” I asked.
“Olivia, I love you. It wasn’t willingly. It was like…like that magic that made Micky love that one girl and then Brittany went with me. Remember?” he asked proud of himself that he remember that. I frowned looking up at him.
“Yes, I remember.” He was so good at remembering things like that. Things that made my argument stupid and his make sense. Now if he could just remember other things too……
“Ha, gotcha again.” He said smiling. I shoved him, “So, do I get to hear one of your secrets now?” he asked I was confused.
“And why would I do that?”
“Because I told you one of mine.” He said.
“Yes, but that was your fault. I didn’t ask for a secret.” I said looking up at him. He was putting on that puppy dog sad face. I smiled and rolled my eyes, “Alright,” I said giving in to his adorable face. He smiled.
“Thanks love,” he said. I just laughed.
“Let’s see…..oh! When did you think that I liked you?” I asked him. He thought for a second.
“Uh, I don’t really have an exact time. There were little incidents that I thought you might’ve been flirting or something, but….the pool was one. Where you lied about going into the deep end.” He said smiling down at me. I laughed.
“Ah, crap, you really did notice?” I asked. He laughed along with me.
“Yeah, I thought it was funny.” He said.
“I saw you smirk when you swam away, but I didn’t know what it was till I realized that what I had said didn’t make sense.” I told him. He just laughed again.
“Yes, then there was the time I kissed you while I was high, and you gave me a 12? Was it?” he asked. I nodded.
“First it was an 8,” I said. He laughed.
“Ah, that’s right. Am I still a 12?” he asked. I looked up at him and smiled.
“More like a 100.” I said. He raised his eyebrows.
“I’ve improved that much aye?” he asked.
“No, I just didn’t tell you the whole truth before. But in a way, some has to do with new feelings. They always make things better.” I said hugging him tighter and nuzzling my head in his chest. He kissed me on the forehead.
“Yes indeed they do, but you were always at like a 300 for me,” he said. I laughed.
“Right, anyway….”
“I’m not kidding! You’re great! The best!” he said.
“Well, thanks…” I said laughing. He shrugged.
“It’s the truth, “ he said, “Anyway, weren’t we talking about your secret here?” he said focusing back on the subject at hand.
“Yes, it’s not that big. But basically, it was you I wanted since day one. I never really wanted George like that.” I said.
“What?” he asked, “ I always thought that you really liked George?” he said. I suddenly realized what I had said sounded a bit wrong. Especially to one of his best friends.
“Don’t get me wrong, I was feeling things for George. Quite a few things actually, and I really thought being with him was right…but, deep down, I really wanted you. I was going to go and sit by you rather than George actually and I dressed nice for you not them, but it was kinda ruined when Brittany took that spot and you started flirting with her. That’s when I decided that if I was going to chase any feelings whether they were infatuation or not, they would be with George. You were way out of my league.” I told him.
“I was out of your league?” he asked surprised, “No, no love, you’ve got it wrong. You were the one that was way out of mine. In fact, John used to tell me that.”
“He did?” I asked. Paul nodded.
“Yep. When I first saw you that night, there was something about you that really caught my eye and I wanted to get to know you. Not only were you hot, but you seemed different than other girls.” He said. I smiled.
“Yeah?” I asked.
“Yes. Even thought you seemed to go for George I couldn’t help but stare at you. I wanted you right then and there,” he said laughing. I smiled, liking how he felt that way. I never knew it before, “That night after the party, John and I were talking. I was telling him about how I couldn’t stop thinking about ya, and that I wanted you. He laughed and said, ‘Macca, that girl is way too hot for you and way out of your league.’”
“Are you serious?” I asked again, not believing it for some reason.
“Dead serious. I ignored him mostly, but kinda thought it my self. He suggested then going for the bird that seemed easy.” He said laughing.
“Who?” I asked.
“Brittany,” he said still laughing. I opened my mouth in shock, but couldn’t help but laugh.
“Wow,” I said. He nodded.
“Yes, wow. So, yeah, I didn’t think you were interested in me at all for quite a while.” He restated.
“Hm, well I was, that’s for sure.” I said, as I snuggled against him again. He was so nice and warm and I always felt so safe in his arms. I closed my eyes forgetting all about Davy, and fell asleep.
